Supported controllers are actual physical controllers that you can use with the Yuzu Emulator. This page lists all controllers and gamepads that are recognized by Yuzu and if connected to it will allow you to enjoy a better gaming experience.
Switch Pro Controller
If you want a controller that has it all then the Switch Pro will not disappoint. If you do not want to use a keyboard, mouse or touchscreen, Switch Pro is quite an experience. The controller offers a d-pad which you just can’t replicate on a PC or smartphone without having an actual controller.
The Switch Pro controller offers an incredible battery life which you will have a hard time getting out of charge when playing on Yuzu. On paper, it claims to give you around 40 hours of charge but based on our experience we have only ever gotten about ¾ of that.
Switch Pro controller doesn’t work to the full of its features out of the box with Yuzu, you have to enable the drivers for it to work and it works flawlessly.
To enable Switch Pro controller support on Yuzu:
- Launch Yuzu emulator.
- Head to the “Settings” tab.
- Now go to “Input Settings” under the “Advanced tab”.
- Here all you need to do is enable “Direct Driver”.
- Done!

Sony DualSense 5/4 (PS5/PS4 Controllers)
The Sony DualSense controllers will provide you a totally different look and feel when using it with Yuzu. The primary feature that you should look forward to with the DS4/DS5 controllers are the haptic feedback which is supported by Yuzu.
The DS4 (PS4) controller was released with the PS4/PS4 Pro and is mostly plug-and-play with Yuzu. Just make sure you have a Bluetooth adapter if you want to connect it without a cable.
The DS5 (PS5) controller offers a haptic experience and a more profound grip when holding it. Motion controls are also supported in Yuzu, all you need to do is enable UDP server. Oh and remember, no additional software is needed to make both of these work with Yuzu.
Xbox One Controller
If you want a more ergonomic controller with a better build quality for comfortable longer play sessions in Yuzu then you can’t go wrong here. The Xbox One controller is sleek and only requires a minor change in the settings to work with Yuzu.
It is mostly plug-and-play, be it wired or over Bluetooth. All you have to do is:
- Head to the “Emulation” settings.
- Now click on “Configure” and go to “Controls”.
- Select “Player 1” or “Player 2” (You can add up to 8 controllers).
- Now select Input Device and click on “Xbox Controller”.
8BitDo Pro 2
A controller designed and built to be used with the Nintendo Switch console and thus works flawlessly with the Yuzu Emulator. This controller offers Hall Effect Joysticks along with professional-level back buttons to have you covered in all types of games from strategy to shooter titles.
There is one catch though with making 8BitDo Pro 2 work with Yuzu which we discovered when we tested it in our lab, as it has two-mode connectivity that can be very unreliable at times. So we went digging and found out that you can use a third-party software called BetterJoy to make it work.
Switch Joy-Cons
The Joy-Cons are what make it all worth it. These are the official controllers that you can attach or remove from the Switch console. If you are after motion tracking and depth tracking, the Joy-Cons are where it all shines.
No other controller offers this and they work great with Yuzu, what we also found is that you can play Multiplayer with two players! To get the Joy-Cons to work again you need to have BetterJoy installed. The gesture-tracking isn’t fully supported on Yuzu and does not work.
Third-party Controllers
There are various other controllers that are non-branded too which you can also use with Yuzu for gaming but they haven’t been tested. However, they may not be fully supported, have bugs, disconnect randomly, or have drift and delays.
Below is a list of other controllers and gamepads with a percentage for a chance that they are compatible with Yuzu.
Controller Name and Model | Compatibility | Connectivity |
Asus Rog Raikiri | 86% | Wireless and Wired |
Xbox Elite Series 2 Core | 90% | Wireless and Wired |
Xbox Elite Series 2 | 90% | Wireless and Wired |
Xbox Wireless Controller | 90% | Wireless and Wired |
Razer Wolverine V2 Pro | 70% | Wireless and Wired |
Logitech F310 Gamepad | 78% | Wired only |
Note: If you are running a build of Yuzu Early Access compatibility with controllers can vary and may not be the same.

Conclusion
Let’s be real here. You don’t wanna be playing controller games with a keyboard, do you? This is the same with Yuzu, for the same or very similar authentic gameplay experience a controller is the way forward. How else would you get a spark in your nostalgia without making it obvious that an emulator is being used!
Controllers also offer a low latency input along with mappings so you can replicate the same layout from the console. You also get the obvious which are the triggers and the analog sticks. Where you can use Tool Assisted Speedrun scripts to emulate the input of a controller the actual look and feel of holding it is completely different and can’t be explained.
Keyboards and mouse don’t provide haptic feedback (yet), but controllers do! Hence why when you are holding one you can actually be immersed in the game. The same goes for pressure-sensitive input requiring games where the trigger nay possibly control the acceleration of a car for example. The same goes for games requiring a specific type of input (D-pad). These can be fighter games such as Pokemon Tournament DX.
Do let us know if you use any of the above supported Yuzu controllers or Gamepads and if one isn’t on the list, reach out we will test it for compatibility and add it above.
